My name is Andy Schwieter. I lead the language access team at Cincinnati Children's. I have previously worked as a patient advocate, translation manager at a small language service provider, and interpreter (CMI-Spanish and certified by the Supreme Court of Ohio). As Vice President, I would help NCIHC and its members promote health equity. As the CDC states (https://www.cdc.gov/healthequity/whatis/index.html), this requires that we "change the systems and policies that have resulted in the generational injustices that give rise to racial and ethnic health disparities. "Interest in health equity is higher than ever, and there is widespread recognition that this includes language access. We must bring together healthcare professionals from all disciplines and every corner of the country so that together we can seize this moment to make our healthcare systems better for people who use languages other than English.
